ANGER SOLUTIONS

This eight-session program supports individuals in developing an understanding of the origins of anger, the theory of anger development and techniques for effectively and safely expressing and releasing anger. 

Our program covers the following topics:

  • Taking ownership of emotional health and well-being
  • Identifying differing styles of expressing anger
  • Cognitive distortions and physiological responses to anger
  • Developing an intellectual understanding of anger development
  • Techniques to resolve anger
  • Application of principles of assertiveness to expression of anger
  • Recognizing healthy and unhealthy relationships
  • Increasing self-esteem
  • Non-verbal communication styles, effective listening
  • Anger resolution skills/conflict resolution skills

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

This eight-session program provides practical ways and means for individuals to identify abuse in relationships, skills to develop healthy relationships, and plans to increase safety. 

Topics covered within the sessions include: 

  • Identifying and increasing understanding of domestic violence and its effect on women and children 
  • Examining issues associated with violence in relationships 
  • Examining forms of abuse and learning how to recognize it 
  • Examining qualities of healthy relationships and learning about self-care 
  • Learning skills related to establishing effective personal boundaries and grounding techniques 
  • Enhancing self-esteem and self-awareness

TRUTH & INTEGRITY

This program enables individuals to assume responsibility for their actions within the context of developing new skills to cope with stress, poverty, and isolation. 

Topics covered within the sessions include: 

  • An examination of our beliefs and values and how those both positively and negatively affect our lives 
  • An examination of factors that determine a person’s sense of self-esteem 
  • Understanding how cultural attitudes about our roles and status are internalized and shape the lives of individuals 
  • Exploring the causes of shoplifting, breach of trust, fraud, and related behaviours 
  • An exploration of how grief, loss, depression, and isolation impact our behaviour 
  • An examination of self-care strategies, money management techniques, budgeting, and development of a spending plan

CONNECTED CAREGIVING

This program enables caregivers to better understand the needs of their child, maintain their own wellbeing and promote a healthy environment for everyone involved. 

Topics covered within the sessions include: 

  • An examination of our beliefs and values about discipline methods and boundaries  
  • An examination of childhood developmental stages, needs, and how to support healthy development  
  • Understanding how parenting styles impact children’s development and self-esteem. 
  • Exploring the role attachment plays in child-caregiver relationship, personality development and later life relationships 
  • An exploration of the impact caregiver substance use can have on children, and how to use harm reduction to minimize risks and basic child related first aid and safety planning  
  • An examination of self-care strategies, time management skills, and special considerations when caring for teenagers

SELF ESTEEM

This eight-session program is designed to assist individuals as they improve their self-esteem by developing positive coping strategies, and by examining life choices.  

Topics covered within the sessions include: 

  • Identifying and increasing understanding of domestic violence and its effect on individuals and developing a realistic and healthy view of oneself 
  • Practicing self-awareness, assertiveness and enjoyment of achievements for what they are 
  • Learning skills to express oneself and establish healthy boundaries that promote positive living 
  • Promoting goal setting to achieve a balanced life and manage stress 
  • Mindfulness and other coping strategies that promote a positive lifestyle 

This program is free to all members of the community, no intake required

GOAL SETTING & STRESS MANAGEMENT

This program enables individuals to clearly define goals, learn skills to work towards them, and explore barriers and habits that have prevented them from reaching their goals in the past. With a strong focus on improving overall wellbeing, this program also teaches various skills to manage stress and basic financial literacy.  

Topics covered within the sessions include: 

  • Exploring how to set goals that are specific, measurable and achievable relating to a specific behaviour change 
  • Exploring how to achieve balance in our lives by examining our physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual connections 
  • Developing skills around finances including examining attitudes towards money, budgeting, and money management 
  • Exploring the barriers to achieving our goals including self-limiting beliefs; shame and guilt; and addictions 
  • Developing skills around grounding and stress-management to improve overall wellbeing

WEVOLVE: UNDERSTANDING AND HONOURING OURSELVES

“WEvolve: Understanding and Honoring Ourselves” online program through the Elizabeth Fry Society of Peterborough.  

This program enables individuals to assume responsibility for their actions through developing an understanding of the origins of anger, the theory of anger development and techniques for effectively and safely expressing and releasing anger.  

Topics covered within the sessions include: 

  • An understanding of what Self-love is 
  • Practicing boundaries and how to appropriately express those needs in relation to self-love. 
  • Learning skills for coping and self-care, as well as knowing how to fill your cup and be humble. 
  • Seven Segments of self-love, knowing how to incorporate self-awareness, self-exploration, self-care, self-esteem, self-kindness, self-respect, and self-growth. 
  • Evaluating your strengths and weaknesses. 
  • Self-forgiveness and self-patience, and how to be kind to yourself in the hard times. 
  • Your support system and who that includes. 
  • Setting goals that are attainable for self-love

Understanding Substance Use: Online Program

This course explores the many facets of substance use such as different types of substances and how they are used, signs and symptoms of tolerance and addictions, myths, stereotypes, stages of change, relapse prevention, abstinence and harm reduction.
