We offer advocacy and support for those involved in the criminal justice system. We provide information about court procedures, assist in navigating court processes, counselling services, programming services, along with provide emotional support during court appearances and a brand new community service hours program that is set to be launched in the near future.
We advocate for community alternatives to criminal justice sanctions. Our workers work directly with people who are accused to navigate the criminal justice system and to access resources in the community to address the underlying issues which may have contributed or resulted in criminalization.
We also offer support in the two specialized courts in the Peterborough area. Community Support Court – Concurrent Disorders Court for Mental Health and Addiction, along with the Indigenous Peoples Court.
MAPS – Mental Health and Peer Support Program
M.A.P.S is a FREE peer support program for individuals who are currently on probation or parole in the Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, and Minden areas. Referrals must be made through the Probation and Parole Office, however, we are more than happy to assist with connecting to P&P to obtain a referral after an individual is already connected to peer support.
MAPS clients receive peer support, assistance with completing probation or parole requirements, support in attending probation or parole appointments, and service navigation.
**MAPS clients do NOT need to have identified substance use for referral; either mental health or substance use qualifies.
BAIL VERIFICATION AND SUPERVISION PROGRAM
Our Bail Verification and Supervision Program offers an alternative to incarceration for those who would otherwise be released but lack the financial and or social supports.
We provide the verification of information at bail court and the supervision of accused persons as an alternative to custody while awaiting a court disposition and/or trial.
The bail program is available to male, female, and gender-diverse persons aged 16 years of age and older who are accused of a criminal offence who are:
- Awaiting initial bail proceedings
- Remanded for show cause hearings
- In custody unable to meet their surety or cash bail
- Appealing a bail decision which has resulted in detention
