The Crossing Modular Homes

Our Modular Housing Program consists of 50 individual modular homes. Each unit is furnished with bed frames, bed mattresses, bedding, a mini fridge, shelving, and storage space.

We have resident washrooms located outside the units, with each washroom containing a sink, toilet, and shower. Additionally, we have 3 washrooms in the main building, one which has a more accessible shower.

Residents have access to 24 hour support from our Case Managers. Case Managers provide case management, service navigation, supportive counselling, assistance with developing living skills, appointment reminders, as well as daily activities for residents.

All individuals selected for the Crossing Modular Housing Program have experienced unsheltered homelessness. Admission to the program is done through the City of Peterborough’s By-Name list using various criteria to ensure the program’s approach best supports residents on site.

Funding

As operators of the Crossing Modular Housing Program, we are funded by the City of Peterborough using provincial funding from the Homelessness Prevention Program.

The Crossing is part of the City’s Interim Housing Solutions strategy approved by City Council.

The goal of this initiative is to provide residents with stable connections to support services and help progress people toward permanent housing.

Maamawi

Indigenous-Led Supports at the Crossing

Our Maamawi program provides culturally appropriate case management and support to Indigenous clients across all of our programs, including the Crossing Modular Housing Program.

We provide an Indigenous wellness approach to housing and assist residents who are completing wellness plans through E Naaknind Anishinaabeg Indigenous Peoples Court (ENAIPC).

We also offer Indigenous-led programming, teachings, and wellness activities for our Indigenous residents. If external resources are requested, we complete referrals to Indigenous-led agencies, resources, and treatment centres across Ontario.

Harm Reduction Support

By providing Harm Reduction supplies, we are reducing the health and social harms that are associated with addiction and substance use.

Providing safe supplies ensures that individuals use safely, and allows them to work towards their recovery goals and seek supports that meet their individual needs.

Understanding Addiction and Harm Reduction

We believe that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and the ability to make choices regarding their journey. Too often, addiction is misunderstood as a moral failing or a matter of willpower. In reality, as Dr. Gabor Maté explains, addiction is deeply connected to experiences of trauma, pain, and disconnection.

That’s why we promote a harm reduction approach. Harm reduction means meeting people where they are in their recovery journey. Whether they are using substances, seeking treatment, or working towards abstinence, we walk alongside them without judgment. We support all pathways recovery and harm reduction is about reducing risks, building trust, and creating opportunities for healing and growth.

This video from Dr. Maté explains why addiction must be seen through a lens of compassion and understanding. His perspective aligns with our commitment to supporting people with whatever path they choose.
